Dedicated to the memory of "Peg"

This site is a tribute to Peg's work for the Red Cross. She is much loved and will always be remembered.

Peg first volunteered to help the Red Cross in the early 1950s. She told a newspaper in 1987 that she recalled "shaking a collecting box with one hand and pushing a pram with the other".  She rose through a number of local offices to become President of the Northumbria Red Cross serving on national Committees. She received the Society's Badge of Honour for Distinguished Service whilst President and truly valued the recognition of her peers. Among her many activities for the Society she helped to resettle Ugandan Asian refugees in the north east of England expelled from their homes and fleeing the tyranny of Idi Amin. After retiring as President, Peg retained her interest in the Red Cross and donated to the Society throughout the rest of her life.

Your generous support for the Red Cross is much appreciated.
